A press release from Sigma Corp. in Japan has announced two new lenses that offer super wide angle zoom capability in Konica Minolta and Pentax mounts.

HSM versions of the same lens were announced last February for the Sigma, Canon and Nikon mounts, and have been shipping for a while now. Specifications of the new variants are largely similar, with the exception of the HSM motors, and are outlined in the press release below. Pricing and availability haven't been announced at this time.

Original Source Press Release:

New Product Information: 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC For Konica Minolta And Pentax Digital SLR Cameras.

Super wide-angle zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras

  • It covers a super wide angle of view 109.4°to 70.5°
  • New multi layer lens coating
  • Three pieces of Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and three aspherical lens elements produce top quality optical performance
  • Minimum focusing distance of 24cm (9.4”) at all focal lengths

Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the new 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC lens for Konica Minolta and Pentax digital SLR cameras. This exclusively designed zoom lens allows enjoyment of super wide-angle photography and it is a very powerful tool for indoor shooting and landscape photography with APS-C size image sensors of digital SLR cameras. It covers a super wide angle of view 109.4°to 70.5°and has a wide-angle perspective throughout the zoom range. The new multi layer lens coating and lens design reduce flare and ghost, which is a common problem with digital cameras and also creates an optimum color balance through the entire zoom range.

Three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements are employed for effective compensation of color aberration, which is a common problem with super-wide angle lenses. One piece of glass mold and two hybrid aspherical lenses, offer excellent correction for distortion, as well as all types of aberration.

This lens incorporates an internal focusing system, which provides high speed AF performance as well as a minimum focusing distance of 24cm (9.4”) throughout the entire zoom range. It is also equipped with a Petal-type hood to block out extraneous light.
