PRESS RELEASE: DALSA Presents Technical Paper on Innovative 28 Megapixel CCD Image Sensor at IEDM 2005 Conference

DALSA Corporation (TSX:DSA) presented a technical paper at last week's 2005 IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM) in Washington, D.C. describing an innovative new CCD image sensor for professional photography.

DALSA Scientist Cees Draijer presented the paper, "A 28 Mega Pixel Large Area Full Frame CCD with 2x2 On-Chip RGB Charge-Binning for Professional Digital Still Imaging." The paper describes a new, large area, 28 million pixel CCD image sensor that incorporates a novel on-chip charge-binning concept, allowing the sensor to read out data at full resolution or at decreased resolution, but with higher light sensitivity, higher signal-to-noise ratio and higher frame rates.

The IEDM is the world's premier forum for the presentation of advances in microelectronic and nano-electronic devices, presenting leading work in the area of silicon and non-silicon device technology, optoelectronics, MEMS, displays and nanotechnology for electronics applications. This year some 250 papers were given by researchers from corporate, university and government labs worldwide.

Also at IEDM, DALSA Scientist Dr. Albert Theuwissen delivered an invited paper titled "The Hole Role." One of the world's foremost authorities on the physics and the design of silicon imagers, Dr. Theuwissen explained and compared fundamental design strategies common to both CCD and CMOS imagers.
