Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. has today announced a new digital camera model that's a higher-resolution, lower-cost update to the six megapixel A600 model.

The Fujifilm FinePix A700 is based around a new seven megapixel SuperCCD HR imager, with a maximum resolution of 3,072 x 2,304 pixels. Fuji's SuperCCD HR sensors use an octagonal array of photodiodes that increases image resolution in the horizontal and vertical planes - where the maximum detail in pictures should be found. Coupled to a Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 36 - 108mm, the sensor offers ISO sensitivity from 100 to 400 equivalent. Where most of the A-series lineup offers optical viewfinders, the A700 (like its A600 sibling) eschews one in favor of a larger 2.4" LCD display.

Other features of note on the Fuji A700 include xD-Picture Card and 12MB of built-in storage, power from two AA batteries, an AVI movie mode with audio, and a product bundle including Fuji's FinePixViewer software. The only other noteable changes from the previous model are a slight weight reduction to 4.9 ounces (body only), and a slight change to the flash range specification (the minimum flash range being increased at wide angle and in macro mode, while the maximum flash range also increases a little at wide angle). The FinePix A700 is priced at $199, $50 less than the A600 listed for last Spring. It will reach stores from early October 2006.

Original Source Press Release:

Fujifilm Raises The Bar In Performance And Value With The FinePix A700

Valhalla, NY, September 12, 2006 – Fujifilm today announced the launch of the FinePix A700, the most advanced model in Fujifilm’s popular A-Series of entry-level digital cameras.

Featuring a 7.3 MegaPixel Super CCD sensor - the first of its kind - a sizable 2.4” LCD and 3x optical zoom, the FinePix A700 is ideal for families, first-time digital camera buyers and consumers looking for a competitively priced upgrade to their first digital camera.

The highlight feature of the FinePix A700 is its sophisticated 7.3 MegaPixel Super CCD sensor. Originally, Fujifilm placed its Super CCD sensor in digital cameras aimed at advanced amateur and professional photographers. This year, however, a breakthrough was made and Super CCD made its maiden, A-Series appearance in the FinePix A400 and FinePix A500 digital cameras. Those cameras carried four and five MegaPixel Super CCD sensors, respectively, and were followed later by the six MegaPixel FinePix A600.

The seven MegaPixel FinePix A700 is the latest progression in the series and offers users the greatest photo flexibility. While seven MegaPixels is more than enough resolving power for a standard, 4x6-inch picture, the extra resolution generated by the Super CCD sensor opens the door to user creativity as digital photos can be converted to poster size prints or cropped without a loss in eye-catching quality.

As an added bonus, Fujifilm’s Super CCD technology is also responsible for the FinePix A700’s unrivalled low noise performance across its ISO 100-400 sensitivity range. Less noise in photos leads to sharper, crisper pictures.

As they search for a new digital camera, consumers should keep in mind the following noteworthy features of the FinePix A700:A 7.3 MegaPixel Super CCD HR sensor that delivers first-class digital images, even if they are enlarged or cropped.A 3x Fujinon optical zoom lens developed specifically for the FinePix A- series by Fujinon, a Fujifilm sister company and leading provider of broadcast-grade television lenses.A 2.4-inch LCD that enables easy viewing and playback. It features an anti-glare coating for improved viewing in direct light.Automatic ISO setting up to ISO 400 with low noise.Four scene modes -- Portrait, Landscape, Sport and Night -- for top quality photos in a variety of shooting conditions. Internal memory: FinePix A700 users are sure to take a lot of pictures, so a little extra storage space is always helpful. The camera has approximately 12MB of on-board storage just in case the removable, xD-Picture Card (sold separately) fills with photosTwo AA batteries power the FinePix A700, a real convenience for users as AA batteries are readily available.

The FinePix A700 will be in stores early October and will sell at a price of $199.
