An article published in the Business section of today's Bangkok Post newspaper reports that Japan's Nikon Corp. is to expand its production capabilities in Thailand.

Subsidiary company Nikon (Thailand) Co. Ltd. currently operates a plant in the Rojana Industrial Park. Located just outside the Thai city of Ayutthaya and about an hour's drive north of the Thai capital Bangkok, the Rojana plant was originally a source of film cameras, and now produces digital SLR camera bodies and lenses.

Nikon has been planning an investment of some 519 million Thai baht (roughly equivalent to US$15.2 million) to expand the plant and increase production, and these plans have apparently now been approved by Thailand's Board of Investment. Some 5,000 new jobs are expected to be created.

More details can be found in the Bangkok Post article.
