Sigma Japan yesterday announced an update program for owners of two Canon EF-mount lens models that may experience issues in use with the Canon EOS 40D digital SLR.

The affected lenses are Sigma's APO 120-400mm F4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM (with serial number below 1011001) and APO 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM (with serial number below 1007001). According to the notice on Sigma Japan's website, the framerate can be reduced when using these lenses with the 40D set to AI Servo AF mode while optical image stabilization is enabled on the lens.

A free upgrade service has been announced on Sigma's website, with customers advised to contact their nearest service location for further details. Customers with lenses that have serial numbers higher than those listed above need take no action, as their lenses already contain the updated firmware.
