Rebate fulfilment company files for bankruptcy

CPG Marketing Co. Inc. and Continental Promotion Group Inc., two companies responsible for providing rebate fulfilment services to a wide range of companies, have this week filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy.

According to a report in the Tampa Bay Business Journal, the companies have together laid off 17 employees and have liabilities in the tens of millions of dollars. Our friends at the Digital Photography Review are reporting that among the companies whose customers may potentially be affected is camera giant Canon, with their article referencing a report in the Dpreview forums from dealer B&H Photo-Video.

Although we've yet to find a detailed accounting of companies for which CPG provided rebate services, thanks to KGO-TV in San Francisco we understand the list includes others such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Citibank, Costco, Home Depot, and Pricegrabber. Customers can apparently confirm if a rebate is being fulfilled by CPG by visiting rebatestatus.com, and are being recommended not to cash checks provided by CPG since this could result in bounced check charges. Canon customers can call 1-800-OK-CANON for advice on how to proceed.
