PRESS RELEASE: International Underwater Photography Competition Presents Stunning Winning Images

The DEEP Indonesia Competition Is Part Of A Series Of International Underwater Image & Video Competitions That Celebrates The Beauty, Mystery & Plight of The Oceans

New York, NY (April 27, 2009) - DivePhotoGuide.com and Wetpixel.com are proud to announce the winners of the 2009 DEEP Indonesia international underwater photography competition.

DEEP Indonesia is part of a unique international series of international underwater imagery competitions founded by professional underwater photographers Jason Heller & Eric Cheng and hosted by popular websites DivePhotoGuide.com and Wetpixel.com, collaboratively with DEEP Indonesia, Indonesia's first and only watersports expo.

Collectively the competitions awarded over $80,000 in world-class prizes in 2009, achieved significant media support, and continue to attract some of the planet's best underwater imagery.

Photographers from around the globe competed in seven themed categories (Divers, Animal Portraits, Animal Behavior, Reefscapes, Environment & Conservation, Compact Camera, and Indonesian Residents) to win over $30,000 in prizes, including photo equipment, dive gear, and premium dive travel packages to some of the top photo destinations in Indonesia and beyond. Indonesia trips include Bali, Fak Fak, Komodo, Lembeh, Manado, and Raja Empat. Additional dive packages include Papua New Guinea and The Bahamas. The competition included a category for images that focus on conservation and the marine environment, one specifically for entries taken by compact digital cameras, and one specifically for Indonesian residents.

The winning images were on display during Indonesia's first and only water sports expo, DEEP Indonesia, in Jakarta Indonesia, March 27th - 29th, 2009. The competition results will also be published by supporting media partners worldwide.

A panel of esteemed judges included leading professional underwater photographers Cor Bosman and Tony Wu and Scuba Diving AustralAsia editor David Espinosa.

As with all Wetpixel & DivePhotoGuide competitions, 15% of proceeds will be donated to marine conservation efforts.

Congratulations again to all of the winners from around the world!
