Olympus has recently issued new firmware for a range of its point-and-shoot digital camera models, including both the FE-series and Stylus-series (also known in some markets as the µ-series).

In all cases, the current firmware version is now v1.1, but the precise changes vary from model to model. Cameras with new updates include the Stylus 7000, Stylus Tough 6000, FE-45, FE-35 and FE-25.

For the Olympus Stylus 7000 (Olympus µ-7000), Olympus has fixed issues with playback of portrait-mode images by pressing the DISP button. The Olympus Stylus Tough 6000 (Olympus µ Tough-6000) meanwhile improves color balance of images shot with three underwater scene modes, and increases playback volume.

Update notes for the Olympus FE-45, FE-35 and FE-25 are just slightly more cryptic. Olympus notes that the new firmware for the FE45 and FE35 offers "improved compatibility of NiMH batteries", while the FE25 update notes state that the "low battery indicator has been adjusted." Whether this is two manners of describing the same change, or the FE-25 update differs from those of its siblings, we're not quite certain.

In all cases, the updated firmware can be obtained through Olympus' Master or Master 2 software package. More details can be found on the Olympus Japan website.
