Olympus Japan has today released updated firmware for several of its Four Thirds lenses.

The Olympus ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 8mm F3.5 Fisheye, 18-180mm F3.5-6.3, 70-300mm F4.0-5.6 and 90-250mm F2.8 updates all include a fix for operation with either the Olympus E-3 and Olympus E-30 single-lens reflex digital camera bodies. Updates specific to each lens that had been made in previous versions are carried through to the new firmware.

Previously when using a combination of one of these lenses and camera bodies, focusing could be unstable across sequential shots in continuous AF mode. Instructions on how to download and install the new firmware can be found on the Olympus Joint Update Service for Four Thirds Lenses website. The firmware versions as below resolve the issue:

  • ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 8mm F3.5 Fisheye: Version 1.1

  • ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 18-180mm F3.5-6.3: Version 1.2

  • ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 70-300mm F4.0-5.6: Version 1.3

  • ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 90-250mm F2.8: Version 1.2
