The British Journal of Photography has published several related articles detailing the imminent closure of camera and lens manufacturer Franke & Heidecke GmbH.

Franke & Heidecke supplies medium-format bodies and lenses to both Leaf Imaging and Sinar. On July 4th, the BJP reported that the company will close by September 2009, with the loss of some 131 jobs. Employees at Franke & Heidecke were apparently told the news earlier last week.

Since that article, two follow-ups have been published with responses from both Leaf and Sinar to the news. Leaf is apparently placing its medium-format AFi camera system on hold pending a reevaluation of the project's viability. Sinar meanwhile is said to be confident that its medium-format Hy6 camera will continue in production, but isn't expected to make a final decision until the end of July.

For more details, read the BJP's coverage.
