Pentax released the 17-70mm f/4 AL IF SDM SMC DA in the summer of 2008, being noteworthy as one of the first Pentax lenses employing the new KAF3 lens mount. The 17-70mm f/4 uses Pentax's "supersonic drive motor" (SDM) to focus the lens, and won't autofocus on older Pentax cameras that rely on a body-mounted screw motor to focus a lens.
