Highly Scalable and Intelligent Solution for Automating Data and Document Capture Processes across Organizations of Any Size and Type

Moscow, Russia (September 15, 2009) — ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture, and language software, today announced the worldwide availability of ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0, the next evolution of its dynamic data and document capture solution. ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0 delivers high performance extraction of data from documents via a new, flexible and expandable architecture designed to meet the throughput needs of virtually any scope — ranging from small, departmental tasks to larger enterprise and governmental projects. The new architecture provides full compatibility across multiple levels of deployment — from desktop to highly-scalable client/server and Web-service environments — enabling customers to easily grow their FlexiCapture deployments as their businesses and throughput demands evolve over time. A powerful combination of intelligent, highly accurate recognition technology, seamless integration, ease-of-use, and multiple deployment scenarios makes ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0 one of the most comprehensive and versatile data capture offerings available today.

“We designed FlexiCapture with the objective of building a single platform capable of serving multiple types of deployments and integration,” explained Aram Pakhchanian, Director of Data Capture Products Department at ABBYY. “As a result, the product can be smoothly adapted for various requirements — adding functions for specific needs, or migrating from a simple desktop-based solution to a distributed system as the workload grows. This brings data capture functionality to a broad variety of vertical markets and gives both customers and integrators the flexibility to make adjustments in accordance with ever-changing conditions.”

ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0 provides customers with a single instrument for processing any type of document simultaneously in one stream — including machine-readable forms, semi-structured and unstructured documents such as invoices, contracts or letters. It automatically extracts data and text from documents for input into backend systems and databases and offers a full range of state-of-the-art functionalities for document classification, indexing, data capture, and document conversion. FlexiCapture 9.0 streamlines paper-based business processes in organizations, dramatically reducing costs spent on manual paper routines, as well as software deployment and maintenance costs. ABBYY’s award-winning FlexiCapture technology ensures that multi-page documents of any structure and complexity to be captured with extreme quality, including documents with variable number of pages and long tables.

The combination of powerful recognition technologies and multilevel data verification ensures superior accuracy of data extraction and document conversion making it the ideal solution for industries such as legal, finance, healthcare, and government where accuracy of data is of high importance.

ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0 offers a set of powerful enhancements and new features, such as:

Highly Scalable Server-Based Architecture — Supports distributed deployment across organizations to automate all the resource-intensive operations on a specialized Processing Server, providing tools and functions for setting up workflows of virtually any complexity. It automatically balances the workload between server cores to ensure the best processing performance, helping to manage productivity and high volume throughput.

Multilevel Document Classification — Provides advanced document classification capabilities for maximum optimization of document capture and export processes. Version 9.0 allows assigning the CClassification Tree with unlimited number of logical levels.

Enhanced Workflow Configuration Capabilities — Offers more flexible instruments to fine-tune workflow processes by using multiple, detailed parameters and rules. Intelligent routing supports more processes for different document types at the same time. For example, while one type of document is recognized and exported in fully automated, unattended mode, other types (including documents with questionable quality) can be separated from the main document stream to be routed for verification by qualified operators.

Extensive Language Support — Now supports 186 languages for OCR (print text recognition) including newly added Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese and 113 languages for ICR (handprint text recognition). It also accurately recognizes multilingual documents with any combination of the supported languages.

Flexible Integration via Web Service API — Supports Web service API and can be seamlessly integrated with applications and workflows as an automated data and document capture service. By leveraging the simple object access protocol (SOAP) support along with intelligent customization tools used to adjust the system for specific document types, image sources, databases, etc., VARs and integrators can easily create a variety of vertical, industry-specific solutions.

Enhanced Processing of Invoices and Other Semi-Structured Documents — ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0 also offers ABBYY FlexiLayout Studio, an intelligent tool used for specifying processing parameters for semi-structured and unstructured documents. Qualified specialists use FlexiCapture Studio to create logical descriptions, FlexiLayouts, for each document type. The latest version of FlexiCapture Studio now provides the ability to create several alternative FlexiLayouts for the same document type, dramatically simplifying the processing of documents with extremely variable location of data fields (e.g. invoices).

Creation of PDF Forms — ABBYY FormDesigner, a special tool to aid in creation of machine readable forms, provides now the ability to create electronic forms in PDF format. This expands FlexiCapture’s ability to cover hybrid projects, with both paper and electronic forms.
