“All-in-all, I will have to give the BODA Dry Lens Bag the PhotoWalkPro Seal of Approval for delivering what it promised.”

Passion, perseverance and the pursuit of perfection. These are the hallmarks of a good success story, and GoBoda has a good story to tell.

Almost a decade ago, photographer Jim Garner thought of the solution to a nagging problem. He had plenty of options for storing his camera equipment, but nothing for the actual photo shoot. What was the best way to keep all of his equipment handy and available? He pieced together a heavily modified messenger bag, and an idea was born.

After using it at a few weddings, word quickly spread. What started out as a few copies of that modified messenger bag for friends turned into a full-fledged independent design, and GoBoda was formed. In 2007, after careful planning and consideration, GoBoda formally introduced a series of lens bags that changed the photography industry.

“[Go]Boda takes a totally different approach with what they call a lens bag.”
Dave Bullock, “PMA08: BODA Lens Bags,” Wired: GadgetLab, February 2, 2008

Invention and innovation at work.
The brainchild of award-winning photographer Jim Garner and his interpretation of feedback from hundreds of working photographers, BODA lens bags were designed to provide photographers with a practical solution for quickly and easily accessing their equipment during a photo shoot. Most camera bags were (and still are) designed for storage before and after the assignment, but BODA lens bags were designed for activity, enabling photographers to focus less on their gear during a shoot, and more on the moment.

The concept took off. Kudos, ideas and suggestions came pouring in, and Jim Garner and his team listened. In 2008, version 2 of the BODA bag launched with several enhancements, and the bags sold out. A cult following began to grow, and BODA bags started appearing in journals and blogs. Today, the BODA lens bag has become a staple for many of the world’s leading photographers, and customers can’t say enough about how their BODA bags have helped their productivity at photo shoots.

“Everything fit perfectly and the best part is that everything had its own place.”

“The BODA Dry lens carrying system is by far my favorite bag of any kind that I've owned to date.”
Armin DeFiesta, February 20, 2008

But the story doesn’t end there.
With that kind of success, why not play it safe? Why would a small business put its livelihood on the line and spend the time and money to forge ahead with new product developments in this economy?

Because now more than ever, people are looking for value, and the team at GoBoda firmly believes that constant improvement and innovation are necessary to create that value. They are quite passionate about reaching for perfection. So they’ve spent the past year gathering more customer feedback, putting it all together, and working tirelessly with the best manufacturers to find ways to make their bags even more effective.

There have certainly been a few challenges along the way. Every detail of the process, from financing to design to production, has been carefully evaluated and occasionally challenged. Many companies are so anxious to cut costs and increase profitability that they end up cutting corners, but the team at GoBoda has been adamant about maintaining—even surpassing—some extremely high quality standards. At times, achieving that quality has meant having to stay strong, find another supplier, or find another way.

After more than a year of hard work, creative problem solving and perseverance, the results are in, and they’re worth the wait.
