From its headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark's Phase One has today released the latest version of its Raw conversion / workflow application Capture One.

Available in standard, DB and PRO versions, Phase One's Capture One 5 adds a number of new features, some of which are limited to the PRO version only. These include the new focus mask tool, which helps accelerate the process of vetting and selecting images by highlighting image areas that are detected as having sharp focus. A green highlight is applied to in-focus areas in both the viewer and thumbnail browser, making it easier to jump straight to the images with sharp focus where it's needed. A new dust-removal tool provides one-click correction of dust spots in images, while a skin tone enhancer helps yield smooth, soft skin tones. An RGB levels and curves tool allows for adjusting individual color channels separately to correct a color cast, or achieve a creative effect.

In both PRO and standard versions, there's also a new focus tool which provides a zoomed-in preview of the image to help confirm focus manually. A lens cast calibration-based light falloff tool corrects color and light intensity differences caused by lens falloff. The new creative vignetting tool allows artistic vignetting effects to be applied to images, and obeys image cropping. There's also a new tool that allows watermarking images with logos or text, and new viewer / proof margin functionality helps with evaluation of images based on their intended use. Finally, a new local copy and apply function allows adjustments made with individual image tools to be copied and applied to other images, saving time in making adustments.

There are also a number of features from prior versions which have been enhanced in Capture One 5. The enhanced image package (.EIP) file format bundles your Raw file with ICC profile and settings applied in your local copy of Capture One, allowing a client to view the image in their own Capture One installation exactly as you intended. Capture One 5 also offers the ability to view and edit a wider range of metadata fields, and supports Raw image files from a greater selection of camera models. Web contact sheet functionality is also said to have been improved to allow for higher image sizes. Several enhanced features are available only in the PRO version - multi-monitor support offers a new preview image size preference which saves time in changing the preview size for each image on large screens, and the workspaces and tool tabs, plus the color editor tool are said to have been improved.

Phase One Capture One 5 and Capture One 5 PRO are available immediately. In addition to the differences mentioned above, Capture One 5 PRO adds tethered shooting support with live preview of image composition, a styles tool, lens correction tools (including chromatic aberration, purple fringing, pin-cushion and barrel distortion, vignetting control and sharpness falloff), and enhanced image rights protection.

Upgrade from Capture One 4 to Capture One 5 PRO is also possible at a cost of US$299 / €229. Capture One is available for both Windows and Mac OS X platforms.
