Photo contest winners present mix of nature, incidental art and urban perspective

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- PhotoBin.com today announces David Lenhert of Escondido, Calif., as the winner of its 2009 Summer Photo Contest. Lenhert's photo was selected as best overall image from hundreds of photographs submitted to PhotoBin.com, a website and resource for photo enthusiasts and photography professionals.

The 2009 Summer Photo Contest entry guidelines included that digital files be submitted as visual reference. Additionally, digital submissions were required to be at least 750 pixels on the longest side and saved as Jpegs (.jpg) not exceeding 1 MB per file. As the first-place winner, Lenhert received $250, with the second and third-place winners receiving $100 and $50, respectively. No entry fee was required to enter the contest.

Lenhert's winning photograph was shot in the narrows at Zion National Park in Utah. Lenhert hiked three miles into the narrows of Zion with his Nikon D700 on a travel tripod, at times shooting knee-dip in the river.

"I've always loved the outdoors and hiking," said Lenhert, who focuses on nature photography and got the winning shot on his second trip to Zion. After years of shooting, reshooting and studying the work of other nature photographers, he finally has a win that exemplifies drama, mood, color and emotion. "I finally feel like I've gotten to the level of capturing the essence of these places," he added.

"The 2009 Summer Photo Contest entries were impressive," said PhotoBin CEO Steve Weber. "Each winning image provided an appealing sense of mystery or possibility, but David's photo edged out the others. And I look forward to our next photo contest, which will be announced early 2010."

Lenhert, a digital photography enthusiast since 2004, aspires to be a professional nature photographer, a switch from his former 23-year career in the information technology field.
