Canon USA Inc. has today issued a wide variety of software updates, both for its digital SLRs and for its compact digital cameras.

The precise selection of updates varies by camera model and operating system, but includes the company's Digital Photo Professional, EOS Utility, WFT Utility, Picture Style Editor and Original Data Security Tools applications. Almost all of the company's EOS digital SLR models receive software updates, as do four of the company cameras.

Updated software includes Digital Photo Professional (v3.8.0 for PC / v3.8.1 for Mac), Original Data Security Tools 1.8.0 (PC only), EOS Utility 2.8.1 (PC / Mac), WFT Utility 3.5.1 (PC / Mac), and Picture Style Editor 1.7.0 (PC / Mac). Digital Photo Professional v3.8.1 for Mac and EOS Utility 2.8.1 on both Mac and PC platforms add support for the EOS Rebel T2i body, but also simultaneously ceases support for all digital SLRs prior to the EOS 30D. EOS Utility 2.8.1 adds support for Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6, and adds the Overlay Display function from Mac DPP v3.8.1, as well as the standby button and shooting sequence number changes.

The WFT Utility 3.5.1 adds support for a number of new wireless file transmitter models - the WFT-E5A / E5B / E5C / E5D for the EOS 7D, WFT-E2 IIA / E2 IIB / E2 IIC / E2 IID for the EOS-1Ds Mark III / 1D Mark III and 1D Mark IV, and also the WFT-E4 IIA / E4 IIB / E4 IIC / E4 IID for the EOS 5D Mark II. On the PC version only, the application is newly linked to EOS Utility 2.8 when starting up, and adds support for the Windows 7 operating system.

Picture Style Editor v1.7.0 adds support for the Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 operating systems, as well as for the EOS Rebel T2i camera body. Finally, the Original Data Security Tools v1.8.0 update newly supports both Windows 7 and the Rebel T2i body.
