Camera Offers Shockproof, Waterproof and Dustproof Features in a Slim and Smart Design

DOVER, NJ, June 2, 2010 – Casio America, Inc. and its parent company, Casio Computer Co., Ltd., are pleased to announce that the company has been presented with the Technical Image Press Association’s (TIPA) 2010 Award for the “Best Rugged Compact Camera” which recognizes Casio’s dedication to quality, design and innovation. The best imaging products of 2010 were selected earlier this month in New York City.

Casio’s EXILIM EX-G1 digital camera was declared the “Best Rugged Compact Camera” for 2010. TIPA stated, “The water and freeze proof Casio EX-G1 is designed with shock-resistant elements throughout the camera, both inside and out, creating a smart look in a slim-line camera with functional beauty.” Casio’s award-winning rugged compact camera was acknowledged for additional features, such as its ability to capture high-resolution 12.1 megapixel images with a 3x optic zoom. Additionally, TIPA acknowledged the EX-G1 for its multi-image capture mode and interval shooting, which utilizes the cameras endurance capabilities. These features enable users to capture great shots while engaging in active sports such as cycling or snowboarding.

TIPA is a global organization made up of 28 different photo and imaging magazines representing 14 countries. TIPA Awards are recognized as the most coveted photo and imaging awards worldwide. Every year, TIPA editors vote for the best photo and imaging products introduced in the market during the previous 12 months and use the following criteria to evaluate products: innovation, the use of leading-edge technology, design and ergonomics, ease of use, price and performance.

“We are honored to be recognized by TIPA and its distinguished members,” says Toshi Iguchi, senior general manager of Casio’s Digital Imaging Division. “The EX-G1 is truly a superior rugged camera that caters to those who never quit challenging both extreme conditions and their own limits.”

The EX-G1 is the first in the EXILIM G line of “endurance” category cameras. The camera was developed to embody this brand concept, using Casio’s years of experience creating technologies for shock resistance, waterproofing and slim-line design. Featuring a two-layer construction with a stainless steel outer-casting, the EX-G1 inner body withstands shock and water damage. The EX-G1 was designed and created in a shock-resistant shell which passed multiple drop tests, including numerous falls from seven feet.

Award winning features such as Casio’s advanced design support waterproof performance and correspond to IEC/JIS Protection Class 8 (IPX8) waterproofing. The EX-G1 can be used for a continuous 60 minutes at depths of 10 feet. Corresponding with Protection Class 6 (IPX6), water will not penetrate the camera even when directly sprayed with jets of water from every direction. Capable of withstanding temperatures as low as 14°F, Casio’s EX-G1 daringly captures images where ever adventurer goes.

The EX-G1 is now available on store shelves with a MSRP is $229.99 and is available in black and red.
