(Monday, June 28, 2010 - 17:52 EDT)

X-Rite has issued an updated software release for use with its ColorChecker Passport profiling tool.

The X-Rite ColorChecker Passport software v1.0.2 improves patch detection, and eliminates errors caused when the luminance of light-colored patches meets or exceeds the luminance of the white patch. It also improves color extraction, allowing the creation of more accurate profiles. Finally, ColorChecker Passport v1.0.2 corrects an issue with the profile name dialog when using the Export with Preset function in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3, and officially makes ColorChecker Passport compatible with the latest Lightroom release.

The X-Rite ColorChecker Passport consists of a rugged plastic case which contains three targets -- ColorChecker White Balance, ColorChecker Classic, and ColorChecker Creative Enhancement. The case not only shields the targets from the effects of UV light and the elements, but also serves as a stand to help position the targets in a scene. A lanyard is included to keep the ColorChecker Passport close to hand, and to assist in positioning of targets. X-Rite's standalone ColorChecker Passport Desktop application and Lightroom plugin both allow creation of DNG profiles for use in an Adobe RAW processing workflow.

The ColorChecker Passport kit is available for both Windows and Macintosh photographers, and priced at around $100.
