Nikon Inc. has released updates for a variety of its imaging software, including Capture NX 2, View NX 2, and Camera Control Pro 2.

All three applications add compatibility with raw files generated by the Nikon D7000 digital SLR. Both Capture NX 2.2.6 and Camera Control Pro 2.8.0 also add support for Nikon's Message Center 2, an application that alerts users when new software or firmware updates are available from the company. (View NX is already compatible with this version.)

Capture NX 2.2.6 also corrects an error that could cause problems with developing Nikon D3100 raw files shot using a Nikon Speedlight strobe, however it should be noted that adjustments saved in previous versions of Capture NX must be reperformed with the current version to resolve the issue.

Users may notice that the version number for ViewNX skips two digits, to v2.0.3. The reason for this is that ViewNX 2.0.2 was available only in the box with Nikon D7000 digital SLRs. VIewNX 2.0.3 corrects a few issues, most notably a white balance problem with the Nikon P7000.

A variety of other changes are made in the new releases, specific to each individual application. Courtesy of Nikon, the full list of changes is as follows:

Capture NX 2 Version 2.2.6

  • Support for RAW images captured with the D7000 has been added.

  • Support for Nikon Message Center 2 has been added.

  • On systems to which ViewNX 2 has been installed, Nikon Transfer 2 is now launched when the Launch Nikon Transfer button is clicked or Launch Nikon Transfer… is selected from the File menu.

  • When Photo Effects... was selected from the Filter menu, and the Auto button in the Photo Effects palette was clicked multiple times, the Brightness value sometimes decreased. This issue has been resolved.

  • When a RAW image captured with the D3100 using a Nikon Speedlight was saved in NEF format after adjustments under the Develop section of the Edit List had been applied, and the new NEF image was later opened, the adjustments applied were reflected in the image, but the adjustments and their values were not properly applied under the Develop section of the Edit List. This issue has been resolved.
However, even when such images saved with Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.2.5 are opened in Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.2.6, adjustments will not be properly applied. Adjustments must be reapplied using Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.2.6.

  • Windows-specific changes:

    • When images were printed in landscape orientation with some printers, a portion of the images was not printed. This issue has been resolved.

    • With some printers, when Printer... was selected from the Page Setup dialog and the OK button clicked, the values indicated for margins sometimes changed. This issue has been resolved.

    • When arbitrary values were entered for margins in the Page Setup dialog and borderless printing was then selected in the Source, the margin values did not change to "0". This issue has been resolved.

    • An issue that caused computers running Windows 7 to enter sleep mode during batch processing has been resolved.

    • When multiple images open in the image window were adjusted using options in the Camera & Lens Corrections palette of the Edit List, an error message was displayed. This issue has been resolved.

    • When Original was selected from the Version menu in the Edit List after editing or saving an image, the processing indicator rotated continuously and the original image was not displayed. This issue has been resolved.

      • When two H.264 movies recorded at 24 fps were added to the Nikon Movie Editor storyboard, a transition effect was added, and the project was then previewed, only the second movie was visible in the transition portion of the project. This issue has been resolved. In addition, overall playback time was longer than the actual playback time, the slider could not be moved all the way to the end, and the specified background music did not play. These issues have also been resolved.

  • Movies can now be recorded with the D7000. Movies are recorded to the memory card inserted in the camera. Movie files can then be downloaded to the computer after recording.

  • When shooting with the D3S or D7000, images can now be recorded only to the memory card inserted in the camera.

  • Macintosh-specific changes:

    • Support for Mac OS X version 10.6.4 has been added.

    • Support for the D1, D1H and D1X cameras has been terminated.

In addition, Nikon has issued several important notes for Camera Control Pro 2 users with the Nikon D3S or D7000 digital SLRs, and those using Mac OS X 10.6:

  • Users of Mac OS X 10.6:

    • Do not assign an application to Image Capture’s Connecting this camera opens: option when Camera Control Pro 2 is used. Camera Control Pro 2 sometimes fails to function properly after the automatically launched application is exited.

  • Users of the D3S or D7000:

    • When the D3S or D7000 is connected to a Macintosh via Camera Control Pro 2, Image Capture, iPhoto or Nikon Transfer will not display images recorded to a memory card inserted in the camera. To view images recorded to the memory card with Image Capture, iPhoto or Nikon Transfer, exit Camera Control Pro 2 and turn the camera off and then on again.

    • When a camera with a memory card containing a large volume of images (hundreds of images) inserted is connected to a Macintosh running Mac OS X version 10.6 and Camera Control Pro 2 is immediately launched, the camera may not be recognized or camera response may be extremely slow. After a camera with a memory card inserted is connected to the Macintosh, do not launch Camera Control Pro 2 while the camera’s memory card access lamp is blinking.

    • When shooting still images in live view mode at a focus mode setting of AF-F with the D7000, focus point information is not recorded with images.
