Japan's Ricoh Co. Ltd. has today released updated firmware for its CX4 compact digital camera.

Release notes for the new firmware version 1.05 include just one change. In the previous firmware release, the camera shake warning symbol wasn't shown with the shutter button half-pressed when in Night Landscape Multi-Shot mode. This issue has been resolved in the newly available firmware. The Ricoh CX4 firmware v1.05 download, as well as details on how to check your camera's current firmware version and to apply the firmware update if necessary, can be found on Ricoh's website.

Announced last August, the Ricoh CX4 features the same ten megapixel, backside illuminated CMOS image sensor, 10.7x folding optical zoom lens, 3.0-inch high-res LCD panel, SD / SDHC storage, and custom lithium ion battery pack as the previous CX3 model. Compared to that camera, the CX4 has an updated sensor shift image stabilization system (said to be good for a 3.7 stop correction), tweaked noise processing algorithms, subject tracking autofocus, a new multi-shot night landscape mode that merges four separate images in-camera to create one exposure with reduced blur from camera shake, and several new special effects modes.
