London, United Kingdom -- 12/05/2011 -- The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has confirmed that Nikon UK Limited has become a licensee of London 2012. Nikon UK Limited will produce a licensed range of Sport Optics, including binoculars, telescopes and laser rangefinders for spectators and competitors.

In addition LOCOG has also appointed Nikon UK Limited as Sole Supplier of Sport Optics providing binoculars, telescopes and laser rangefinders for use by officials at a number of Olympic and Paralympic sports including Sailing, Archery, Shooting and Athletics.

Nikon UK Limited is part of Nikon Corporation, which has been manufacturing binoculars since 1917.

LOCOG Commercial Director Chris Townsend commented, “This is a deal which crosses both our merchandise and sport programmes. Nikon is a renowned brand which stands for quality and excellence and we’re delighted to be working with them. Their equipment will be used by spectators and competitors alike at sports like Archery, Sailing and Shooting, getting everyone closer to the action.”

The London 2012 merchandise programme is expected to raise around £80 million towards the staging of the Games. Last year its online shop at www.london2012.com/shop and dedicated stores at St Pancras International and Paddington Stations were opened. This year has seen a new store open at Heathrow Terminal 5 with more to follow.
