Lexar's online photofinishing website gets a facelift and some new capabilities...

Printroom.com, the online photofinishing presence of Lexar Media Inc., yesterday unveiled a new site design along with a number of new features. Whilst the clean new design is probably the most visible change to anybody familiar with Printroom, perhaps the most interesting new feature is that the site now offers Pro photographers the ability to set up their own co-branded site where they can sell prints to their customers at prices they choose themselves.

Features of Printroom's Pro Studio sites include password protection, 300MB of storage space, online sales reports, and more. There is an initial setup fee of $99, an annual account maintenance fee of $299 (which is waived if revenue for the previous year on the account exceeds $3000), and an 11% fee on total print revenue excluding tax, shipping and handling. Credit card orders also have a 3% processing fee, and additional storage space costs $20 per 100MB. Prints ordered through Pro Studio sites are fulfilled by Printroom on the pro photographer's behalf, using silver halide paper.

Fees for printing at the site have been reduced, and are the same for Pro Studio co-branded sites or for end-users printing their own photos (although as mentioned previously, Pro Studio site owners have the option to set what price the end user pays for prints in their own sites). Prices are as follows:
  • 4" x 6" - $0.39
  • 5" x 7" - $0.99
  • 4 wallet-size prints - $1.39
  • 8" x 10" - $2.99
One last change in the new Printroom.com site is that the company now offers an additional cropping option, "no crop with white borders". Individual Printroom.com users can store up to 200MB of photos free of charge, and as with Pro Studios, individual members can purchase extra storage space for a one-time fee $20 per 100MB. Unlike some similar services from other companies, Printroom does allow its members to display images hosted through its service on other sites...
