The Nikon D5500 is available body-only, or bundled with either the Nikkor AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens, or the AF-S DX 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens. See our in-depth SLRgear reviews of these two lenses by clicking here: Nikon 18-55mm VR II review and here: Nikon 18-140mm VR review.

Below are our viewfinder accuracy test results for the Nikon D5500.

Viewfinder Test Results

Coverage
About average coverage accuracy from the optical viewfinder. Excellent accuracy from the LCD in Live View mode.

60mm, Optical
60mm, Live View LCD

The Nikon D5500's optical viewfinder yielded about 95 percent coverage with our reference Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 macro lens. This is average for an entry-level digital SLR and meets Nikon's specification, however the viewfinder image is slightly tilted and shifted compared to the imaging sensor, which unfortunately is not that uncommon in consumer DSLRs. In Live View mode, the Nikon D5500's LCD showed very close to 100%, which is excellent.

The images above were taken from our standardized test shots. For a collection of more pictorial photos, see our Nikon D5500 Photo Gallery .
