Troubleshooting made trivial: Canon details error codes

Have you ever hit an error message on your Canon digital camera, and been stumped for the meaning? These two-digit codes don't manifest themselves too often, but when they do, the accompanying message can occasionally be rather cryptic.
If you've seen one of the less obvious error messages, chances are you did what most folks would: reseated the battery and lens, swapped the flash card, then powered the camera back on. Either the problem was gone, and you went back to shooting without really knowing what it was all about, or the problem remained and it was time to resort to the user manual, Google, and eventually perhaps, to tech support.
