When Red Bull sets their minds to something, they don't do it by halves. After all, this is the same company that had a man dive from the stratosphere. So when Red Bull got interested in light painting, they did something we've never seen before — they strapped lights to wakeboarders, and photographed them doing tricks at night.

The photoshoot is part of a Red Bull sponsored event called Snap! Orlando, and it saw three of the Red Bull Riders wakeboarders riding specially modified boards with waterproof LEDs attached. Photographed by a team lead by Patrick Rochon, only a few shots are being shown off now, with the rest held off for the Snap! exhibition, and Red Bull's own Illume sports photo competition.

Luckily, one of the team of photographers popped up in a Reddit discussion about the shoot, and gave a bit more information (and shared a few photos) about what was going on behind the scenes. Describing the process, he said:

"Yeah it was pretty difficult to compose the shots, but we used flood lights prior to starting for focus and composition. We also had a team of about 4 or 5 photographers shooting at the same time with a huge strobe from the shore to freeze the wakeboarders in the middle of their tricks. I was using a D600 with a Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 - I am a canon user personally but I love using other brands too. We were out there for 8 hours for 3 nights. The redbull wakeboarders were really cool and very enduring. It was pretty cold those nights being in the 40's at times."

If these are the shots that they aren't holding back, we're intrigued by which ones will have made the final cut for the competition. Three nights of shooting will doubtless have provided some incredible images.
