Is Nikon's Capture NX photo editor a part of your digital darkroom? If so, your darkroom just scored an upgrade, thanks to a new release of the app. Capture NX 2.4.4 is aimed at fixing a number of bugs, and adding support for the recently-announced, enthusiast-friendly Nikon Coolpix P7800 digital camera.

Nikon Capture NX 2.4.4 is available for both Mac and Windows platforms, and the precise changes made in the new release vary by platform. Both versions newly support the Nikon P7800, as just mentioned. They also add an Automatic (Underwater) distortion correction option, which is displayed only when using an interchangeable-lens camera and lens which support underwater automatic distortion control, if you were shooting with the function disabled. (In other words, you can retrospectively enable the function through the software.) This is likely related to the Nikon AW1, another recent camera release from the company.

The new release also fixes a problem with intermittently-required app restarts when using the LCH tool, and with screen corruption while adjusting certain slider bars, including Gaussian Blur, High Pass, and Colorize.

That's all for Mac users, but Windows users also get two more fixes. These relate to incorrect display of printers in the Print Layout dialog, and incorrect Artist information when using a language other than English.

More details and the download can be found on Nikon's website.
