Jakob de Boer is a photographer and director based out of Toronto, Canada. When not testing Leica prototypes on the side, he spends his time capturing beautiful images from around the world.

In The Guild, a seven-minute short film from Freeman House, Jakob shares an incredible dose of inspiration, diving into the deep caverns of the creativity that keeps him and his work going.

Each and every day I come across a handful of short documentaries or film similar to this, but this one in particular shines through the rest. Jakob seems to have this innate sense of storytelling that’s present not only in his imagery, but his words as well.

Jakob’s opening sentence is especially poignant to me, wonderfully summarizing the intimate process that is creating:

‘Creating is an essential ingredient to our journey of life for everybody; the idea of breaking something down and remaking it.’

I can’t recommend this video enough. To check out more work from Jakob, you can head on over to his website.
