Olympus has announced that Chinese drone manufacturer DJI is officially joining the Micro Four Thirds System standard.

Details are scarce, so there’s no telling what this means for DJI’s future products, but it doesn’t take much hypothesizing to come up with a few possibilities.

Most notably, this joining of the Micro Four Thirds System standard leads the way for DJI to start implementing more powerful, dedicated camera systems into their remote-control drones.

DJI’s Inspire 1 camera turned some heads when it announced its integrated 4K camera, so we can only imagine the reaction if they were to implement a system that would allow for hot-swapping of lenses, quite literally on-the-fly.

We’ve reached out to DJI and will update appropriately if any more information is given.
