New Year’s Resolution: We take a closer look at initial gallery images from the Canon 5DS R

UPDATE 3/25/15: Canon has informed us that image quality from the early pre-production sample of the 5DS R we received was not final, so we've removed links to the original camera files. They said that screen-res images and 1:1 crops are OK, though, and we'll be adding a few more examples of that sort to the camera's main page shortly. Apologies for the disappointment; we'll shoot and post more samples as soon as we receive a production-level version of the camera!
And just like that, it was gone again. Such is the case with sample unit prototypes - we often get just a quick glimpse, but in the case of the Canon 5DS R we're glad we did! On Friday we were able to post our initial First Shot lab samples for you, and we now offer up an initial look at real world gallery images and impressions.
Canon was kind enough to lend us the abundantly sharp 24-70mm f/2.8 L mk II to accompany the 5DS R, so I headed out with this combination on Saturday to try and capture as many various examples of fine detail, both near and far, as I could find. I only had about 5 hours with the combination before the weather moved in, but it was a very enjoyable initial experience all-around.

We'll have much more detailed review information forthcoming once we receive a full production sample, and in the meantime head to our Initial Gallery Write-up for more.
