External mobile phone lenses come in all shapes and sizes, but they often make your phone bulkier or require special adapters or cases. BLIPS, on the other hand, are small and thin lenses that fit right in your wallet when not attached to your phone and "turn your devices into digital microscopes in seconds."

BLIPS lenses are available in two types: macro and micro. The macro lens is 0.5mm thick and the micro lens is only 1.2mm thick. To use the lenses, you simply stick them over your device's built-in lens. They are reusable and said to "stick again and again." By cutting the film, you can shape them to fit a variety of devices.

BLIPS macro offers a roughly 10 times magnification. BLIPS micro can achieve up to 100 times magnification when used in conjunction with digital zoom and depending on the device you are using. It is able to detect details of roughly 1/7,000 of an inch, according to the Kickstarter page.

The Kickstarter is going very well so far with 30 days remaining. As of this morning, the project has more than 3,000 backers with almost US$130,000 pledged (the goal was just over US$17,000). Early birds were able to snag the BLIPS kit with the macro and micro lenses plus additional accessories for as little as US$17, but for only US$23 you can still back the project and get the two lenses.

You can view a variety of sample images on Kickstarter and this website. It will be interesting to see what kind of results users achieve when the product starts shipping this August.
