Live from New York, Sony is making a presentation of several new products today, including the new flagship Sony A6500 APS-C camera, the Sony RX100 V compact and the MPX-UR100A underwater housing for RX100-series. Watch this space for all the details, and follow along in the streaming video below!

  • Two new cameras to announce today

    • New RX-series model: Sony RX100 V

      • Coming end of October 2016 in the US market, November in Europe; priced at around US$1,000 / CA$1,250 / €1200

      • Will provide "professional-level AF performance"

      • New 20.1-megapixel, 1"-type stacked CMOS image sensor with newly-incorporated PDAF pixels

      • BIONZ X image processor with newly-developed front-end LSI

      • 0.05-second Hybrid AF (Phase-detect first, then contrast-detect to tune) is a claimed world's fastest, using an in-house measurement (shot at wide end, EV 4.7 light level, program auto and wide-area AF)

      • 315 points which again is a claimed world's highest, and they cover 65% of the image frame

      • 24 fps capture with AF *and* AE, even in raw+JPEG, another world's fastest, and with a huge 150-frame (!) buffer

      • Real-time noise reduction for each image thru BIONZ X and LSI

      • 1/32,000-second anti-distortion shutter essentially eliminates rolling shutter for stills

      • 960 fps slow-mo

      • 4K video complete with Fast Hybrid autofocus, no line-skipping or pixel binning, capturing about 1.7x as much data as required for 4K and then downsampling to 4K resolution

      • AF drive speed and tracking sensitivity are adjustable

      • Up to 960 fps high frame-rate, double the recording duration provided previously; up to eight seconds of 40x slow-motion for a 320-second slow-mo video

      • Same body size as past RX100-series models, so it's a pocket powerhouse

      • XGA OLED Tru-Finder with Carl Zeiss optics, 2,349,000-dot

      • Silent shutter option at up to 24 frames per second

      • Eye-AF in AF-C mode

      • 180-degree up / 45-degree down tiltable LCD, 3.0-inch with 1,229,000-dot

    • Underwater housing MPK-URX100A

      • waterproof to 40 meters / 130 feet

    • New APS-C flagship camera: Sony A6500

      • Available by end November in US / Canada, and December in Europe

      • US$1,400 / CA$1,750 / €1,700

      • 24.2-megapixel CMOS image sensor with ISO 51,200-max

      • BIONZ X image processor with new front-end LSI

      • 0.05-second Hybrid AF (Phase-detect first, then contrast-detect to tune)

      • 425 AF points, a world's highest

      • 11 fps capture for 24 seconds (High mode, fine image quality) complete with AF and AE

      • Five-stop, five-axis IS for the first-time ever in an APS-C camera, without increasing body size (tested with Sony 55mm f/1.8, pitch / yaw directions and long-exposure NR disabled)

      • Touch-screen with touch AF / touch pad function (shift focus by dragging fingertip on LCD while monitoring EVF)

      • Internal 4K video oversampled from 6K, looks like it crops on all sides

      • Palm-sized camera body

      • 10 customizable buttons
