Thrifty Thursday: Deals on Sony Alpha cameras and lenses, a carbon fiber tripod and Profoto lighting

After a long hiatus, we are back for another edition of Thrifty Thursday. This week we have a variety of deals to highlight for you, including some on Sony cameras, a tripod and head combo and a nice bonus if you’re in the market for high-end lighting equipment.
Sony Savings and a Trade-in Deal
There are great ways to save big on Sony Alpha cameras and lenses right now. For starters, there are instant rebates up to $300 on new cameras and lenses. If that doesn’t have you excited, you can also receive up to $480 towards select Sony Alpha cameras or lenses by trading your gear in, which B&H says will net you “top dollar.” If you want the biggest savings, you will have to be purchasing the Sony A7R II, which is the only Sony Alpha purchase which will earn you a $480 trade-in bonus, although the Sony A7S II isn’t far behind at $450. Both of those cameras also have a $300 instant rebate. There are still great savings to be had on the Sony A7 II as well, with an instant rebate of $200 and trade-in bonus of $255 available for the body-only and a trade-in bonus of $300 available if you buy the A7 II with an FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens.
Speaking of lenses, if you already own an Alpha camera, you might want some new glass for your camera and Sony has you covered there as well. Refer to this page for the full list of deals, but a few of the standouts include:
Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with Head for $100 off
B&H is offering the Oben CT-3451 Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with BE-113T Ball Head for just under $200, a savings of $100. The tripod has a load capacity of 13.2 pounds and a max height of 61.3 inches, while being only 17.1 inches long when folded, including the BE-113T ball head.
This compact, lightweight tripod – which also offers monopod capabilities – has garnered positive reviews from many users, including 27 of 32 reviews being 4 or 5 stars and an average review score of 4.25. If you’re looking for a lightweight tripod and ballhead combination with quick release carbon fiber legs, the Oben CT-3451 looks to be well worth considering.

Profoto B1 and B2 units come with free Air Remote
If you’re buying Profoto B1 or B2 units, you are already spending a considerable amount of money, so why spend more on an Air Remote? Fstoppers says “using a Profoto B1 or B2 without an Air Remote TTL is just like having a supercar with terribly bad tires. Without it, you won’t have access to all the cool features such as TTL and HSS – which are probably the two reasons why most people buy these strobes.” From now until the end of April, you can have a choice of one of the following items for free when purchasing a Profoto B1 or B2 through an authorized dealer: Profoto Air Remote Transceiver, Profoto Air Remote TTL-C for Canon, Profoto Air Remote TTL-N for Nikon or Profoto Air Remote TTL-S for Sony, which amounts to a value up to $419 of free accessories.
