Announced earlier this summer, the long-awaited Canon 6D Mark II was finally unveiled to the world. Sporting a similar lightweight design -- though now with a nifty articulated touchscreen -- the 6D Mark II's internals are all new compared to 2012's original 6D. Canon's upgraded the sensor, going from 20-megapixels to a 26-megapixel full-frame chip -- it's not a massive upgrade in resolution, but for the target market, the Mark II offers a nice level of pixel-peeping power. The 6D Mark II also offers the latest DIGIC 7 image processor, which is the first 7-series processor in a full-frame Canon DSLR. Together, the camera's native ISO range increases to a maximum of 40,000, compared to 25,600 in the original (the full expanded ISO range of 50-102,400 remains unchanged).

After bringing you an in-depth Hands-On Preview, complete with loads of real-world images -- but using a pre-production camera -- we've now gotten our hands on a final production model and have our standard First Shots set of laboratory sample images ready for critical eyes! As always, our First Shots series offers the standardized test images across the full range of the camera's ISO levels, with both RAWs and JPEGs as well as samples at both the camera's most minimal noise reduction setting and its default.

To get the proverbial juices flowing, below are a couple quick comparisons from the Canon 6D Mark II's biggest competitors: its predecessor and the higher-end, higher-res Canon 5D Mark IV. Of course, using our Comparometer, you can compare the 6D Mark II lab images against any other camera we've ever tested.
