Laowa has announced a new manual focus FE lens designed for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, the Laowa 15mm f/2 FE Zero-D. The ultra-wide and ultra-fast prime lens provides a close-to-zero distortion image with 110° angle of view. The lens is quite compact as well, as it's only 2.4 inches long (62 millimeters) and it weighs around a pound (500 grams).

The lens has 12 elements across 9 groups including a pair of aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements. Even though it's a wide-angle lens, Laowa has manufactured the lens with a flat front surface such that it can be used with 72mm filters. Another interesting aspect of the lens is its close-focus distance. While not quite as close as Laowa's unique 15mm macro lens, the new 15mm f/2 Zero-D can focus as close as 5.9 inches (15 centimeters), offering a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.

The Laowa 15mm f/2 is available now for preorder. The lens will be shipping later this month or early in September. For the first 200 customers who preorder, they will also receive a bonus set of Laowa 72mm screw-in filters, including UV, circular polarizer and neutral density filters for free.

The lens has a switch to change between a clicked and clickless aperture diaphragm, perfect for videographers who want smooth changes in aperture.
