I recently had the opportunity to get some hands-on time with the new ultra-compact Rebel camera, the Canon SL2. This 24-megapixel entry-level DSLR incorporates numerous improvements over its predecessor while retaining the SL1's small and lightweight form factor.

While the SL2 is slightly larger than the SL1, it remains extremely small for a DSLR. Thanks to its Vari-angle touchscreen and great user interface, the SL2's user experience has proven to be a highlight of my hands-on time with the SL2 so far. In addition to discussing the camera body and handling, in Field Test Part I, I also look at the camera's image sensor and image quality, autofocus and performance.
