The compact Fuji XF 50mm f/2 WR lens is a nifty little portrait prime for the X Series system. For one thing, it fills a noticeable gap in Fuji's lens lineup: the affordable 50mm (75mm eq.) prime lens. They have zooms that hit this focal length, of course, as well as the pricey yet beautiful 56mm f/1.2, but until now nothing for the more budget-conscious photographer. Secondly, despite the lower price tag, the image quality is fantastic, as is its build quality. It's no wonder then that this lens was awarded Best Value Prime in our Lens of the Year Awards for 2017.

We've now published our lab review of the Fuji 50mm f/2. Optically, the lens is excellent: super-sharp, even at f/2, with extremely low distortion and CA as well as very minimal vignetting. Despite the $450 price, the build quality is top-notch and includes weather-sealing (something the pricier 56mm f/1.2 doesn't offer). If you're a Fuji photographer looking for a super-small yet high-quality 75mm-eq. prime lens without a big hit to your finances, the XF 50mm f/2 WR is that lens.
