For photographers looking to either become a professional or improve their current business, a critical part of the process is “building your brand.” Jay P. Morgan and The Slanted Lens has employed the help of Jordan Zobrist to share tips and tricks for growing your brand on Instagram. For many professional photographers, Instagram has proven to be a very valuable means for not only connecting with current clients but attracting prospective new clients as well.

In addition to sharing Instagram-specific tips, the video below also goes behind the scenes with Zobrist as she works with a model on a shoot. Zobrist’s number one tip for growing your brand on Instagram is to be a consistent poster, ideally posting new work every single day. There’s a balance to be struck between posting too little and too much, but consistency is key. You want to be giving your followers what they want, more great content to enjoy, and you want to be regularly growing your following, which is difficult to do if you aren’t sharing new work. Her next tip involves what type of work you should be posting. If you are trying to attract a certain kind of work, then you need to be showing off those kinds of images. For example, if you want to shoot more lifestyle portraits, you should be posting these kinds of images from prior shoots. Further, you will want to only post the best examples of your work. If someone visits your profile, you want them to be able to scroll through and see only high-quality work. For the rest of Zobrist’s tips and to see her at work, watch the video below.
