Joining the existing suite of compact and affordable prime XF 23mm f/2 R WR, XF 36mm f/2 R WR and XF 50mm f/2 R WR lenses, Fuji has just announced a new wide-angle prime, the Fujinon XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR. The light and compact lens is made using metal components and includes weather sealing in nine different locations.

The lens weighs 5.46 ounces (155 grams) and is just under 1.8 inches (45.4 millimeters) long, and sports a 49mm filter thread. The optical formula includes 10 elements in 8 groups, including a pair of aspherical elements. With its closest focusing distance of under 7 inches (17 centimeters), the 16mm f/2.8 can produce images with a maximum magnification of 0.13x. Regarding autofocus, the lens uses an inner focusing system with a stepping motor, which promises quick and nearly-silent focusing performance.
