When Panasonic brought video capabilities to their GH-series Micro Four Thirds lineup so many years ago, they likely didn't realize just how big a splash they were making into a new world. By the time the GH3 rolled around years later, the line was growing into a majorly seasoned production tool for video enthusiasts and professionals alike. And now, following the successful debut of the S1 and S1R full frame mirrorless models, the company is officially rolling out their latest video monster in the Panasonic S1H.
Panasonic fittingly chose Los Angeles, California as the obvious spot to finally, fully unveil this video production powerhouse, which represents a new zenith for production cababilities in an ILC. Sporting all of the tools found on the mega-popular GH5 yet porting them to a full-frame body and adding a wealth of new additions and dimension to the product, the S1H represents the new state-of-the-art for ILC video capabilities.
As you'll read all about in our detailed Panasonic S1H review and also see in our comprehensive S1H Walkaround Video from our publisher Dave Etchells, the S1H sports 6K/24p capabilities, as well as true 10-bit 60p 4K, which has been heavily requested among video professionals and enthusiasts alike. The camera brings many additional capabilities to the fold as well, such as offering true Dual Native ISO, 14 stops dynamic range and unlimited record time.
The camera also sports many features designed to seamlessly integrate into a VariCam 35 workflow, including a mode that allows the inset panel settings to "look" like a VariCam! It also has in-body Image Stabilization rated to 6 stops (6.5 when paired with with Dual IS-capable lenses). Obviously it will certainly get the job done as a still camera, but as you can already tell, this machine is clearly built with video in mind!
