A little later than intended -- your humble editor has been under the weather for the past few days -- our Firmware Friday roundup arrives this week predominantly bearing news on the lens front. In all, five lenses for Fuji X-mount and Leica L-mount have been updated in the past week, with the majority of these being from Sigma. And we also have software news to report from both Olympus and Sigma.

Let's get right down to it!

Fujifilm XF16-80mmF4 R OIS WR

Kicking things off this time with the Fuji XF 16-80mm f/4, firmware version 1.01 is said only to fix "slight defects", with no specifics provided. You can download it here.

Olympus Workspace

Version 1.2 of Olympus Workspace brings the same three changes for both Windows and MacOS. There's support for the recently-launched E-PL10, plus new multiple composite and monochrome / sepia JPEG picture mode functions. Updates for Workspace can be downloaded through the software itself, using the "Update Software" link under the Help menu.

Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM A012, 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN A019, 35mm F1.2 DG DN A019, and 45mm F2.8 DG DN C019 for Leica L-mount; Capture Pro and Photo Pro

Finally, the bulk of the news comes courtesy of Sigma. L-mount versions of all four lenses mentioned above have all received version 1.1 firmware. In all cases, power consumption is better-communicated to the Leica CL and SL camera bodies. In addition, all except the 35mm f/1.4 now have improved aperture control during movie capture with the Sigma fp camera.

Sigma has also disclosed a startup issue with Capture Pro 1.3.1 on MacOS Catalina which it says will be fixed in an upcoming version 1.3.2, and has released Photo Pro 6.7.0 for both Windows and MacOS. The new version, which now requires 4GB RAM on either platform (8GB recommended) has changes as follows:

  • Corrected the phenomenon whereby highlighted parts turn to unnatural colors when both color adjustment and X3 Fill Light are used on X3I files.

  • Compatible when editing and development of still images with RAW data (DNG files) taken with the SIGMA fp.

  • Added thumbnail display for movie RAW data (Cinema DNG files) taken with the SIGMA fp.

  • Incorporated the functions of “Distortion correction”, “Diffraction correction”, “Peripheral light correction” and “Shading correction”.

  • Additional presets have been added such as “High-key” and “Low-key” to the Tone Curve Editor.

  •  “Teal & Orange” have been added to the Color Mode

  • Added slider that enables adjustment of the Color Mode effect.

  • Added slider that enables adjustment of the effect for “Tone Color” during the monochrome processing.

  • Changed the adjusted width of Fill Light for still image RAW data (DNG files) taken with the SIGMA fp to ±5.0.

  • “√2:1” aspect ratio when taking images is now available.

This new release of Photo Pro is being tested for MacOS Cataline compatibility currently, as is Sigma Optimization Pro 1.5.0.

And that's all for this week. Check back next time for more firmware news!
