Amongst DJI’s many prospective product launches at present - including a potential new mirrorless camera through to new drones - many are wondering if the company is leaving behind other facets of their industry. Though we haven’t yet got an officially DJI Osmo Action 5 release date, the looming specter of the GoPro hangs over the final months of 2024, the Osmo’s main competitor. And it looks like we could be seeing DJI launching their competitor not too far behind.
A leak from @JasperEllens on Twitter seemingly confirms the Osmo Action 5 Pro’s existence, and a handful of very interesting specifications in regards to it, with a photo of the camera’s packaging.

We’d predict an October 2024 release date for the Osmo Action 5, in order to compete with the GoPro Hero 13, launching at a similar time.
DJI Osmo Action 5 Specs Leaks
The interesting factor regarding these leaks is that the packaging highlights some of the Osmo Action 5 Pro, including some new features and improvements on existing ones. First up, the Osmo Action 5 is expected to feature a 1/1.3” CMOS sensor, an upgrade over its predecessor. This larger sensor size should improve the camera’s ability to capture high-quality images and videos, especially in low-light conditions. Paired with an f/2.8 aperture, the Osmo Action 5 can capture bright and high-quality footage.
For reviewing your captures, the camera will seemingly feature a high-resolution HDR-OLED touchscreen for better color accuracy, higher contrast ratios, and improved visibility under direct sunlight compared to previous models. The inclusion of HDR support also means users can expect richer detail in both highlights and shadows when reviewing footage.
Battery life has always been a critical factor for action cameras, and the Osmo Action 5 manages to set a new standard with a 4-hour runtime. This is a significant improvement over the Osmo Action 4: allowing users to shoot extended sessions without frequent recharging, making it ideal for long adventures or time-lapse projects. Whether or not this is reflective of real-world performance, however, remains to be seen.
For wide-aperture use, where background and subject will be separated, the Osmo Action 5 appears to employ a new Enhanced Precision autofocus system for tracking subjects. The Enhanced Precision is likely only a marginal improvement over the previous autofocus systems, potentially utilizing advanced algorithms or AI to predict and maintain focus on fast-moving subjects, such as athletes or wildlife.
The mystery on the box, however, is the inclusion of “Professional Audio Recording” with the DJI Microphone Connection. Whether this simply means wireless microphone support or a built in audio system, we don’t know.
There are a lot of mysteries regarding this new action camera, most pressingly the DJI Osmo Action 5 release date. We don’t think we’ll have long to wait, however, so keep up-to-date with the latest developments via this page.
