Consumers are looking for the highest quality technology available when making a digital camera purchase, including its video capabilities. The ability to capture videos and photos on one device creates convenience for the end-user which also makes them more likely to utilize video capturing capabilities. Consumers are also more likely to create videos on their digital camera if they believe the quality is comparable to a video camcorder, which is where the HD component comes into play.

Mona Belle, a Consultant at InfoTrends comments, “A healthy number of respondents have shown interest in HD video capability in their next digital camera purchase. Digital camera vendors should consider making HD video recording a standard feature on all cameras (excluding low value models) to capitalize on this growing demand.”

Digital Camera Video Capture: 2011 European Digital Photography Survey explores how consumers capture, share, and store digital videos. The survey was conducted among 2,049 respondents in France, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The study also provides insight into what demographics are interested in digital video capture and their future buying plans.
