Ronkonkoma, NY, Dec. 22, 2011 – Sigma Corporation of America made one photographer’s – and many cancer survivors’ – holidays a little bit brighter today when it announced the winner of the “Dear Sigma” Contest.

Brandon Bethea, of San Diego, Calif., will receive three Sigma lenses totaling nearly $2,500 as a result of his “Dear Sigma” contest entry, titled “Better to Give than Receive.” Bethea founded Fin Forward, a shark-diving project for cancer survivors, and said he plans to use the 50mm F2.8 macro, 8-16mm F4-5.6 wide angle, and 20mm F1.8 wide angle lenses to photograph his upcoming 2012 Mayan Shark Odyssey to raise awareness about cancer and shark conservation.

In his plea for Sigma photography equipment, Bethea wrote: “Dear Sigma, I can honestly say I’ve been nice this year and truly deserve some new Sigma gear … No one has a better backdrop, more meaningful cause, or greater giving spirit … Please help with my holiday wish list, so I can help others with their bucket lists.”

The Sigma Corporation of America contest started on Cyber Monday, when the camera, lens and flash manufacturer invited photographers to visit the Sigma Corporation of America Facebook page and draft a letter to the company describing the Sigma products that are on their holiday wish lists.

“It’s rewarding to know that we put a smile on someone’s face this holiday season – and that the Mr. Bethea will use the lenses to positively impact other people’s lives,” said Mark Amir-Hamzeh, president of Sigma Corporation of America. “It was really difficult to choose from the hundreds of entries we received. We want to thank everyone who participated and wish all of our fans a very happy holiday season.”
