  • Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

8 out of 10 points and recommended
zoom range, IS, fast and silent auto focus, image quality
zoom creep, some wobbling, a bit soft at long end, hood is extra

I just bought this lens a few weeks ago, and so far I find it to be a very good walk-around lens.

  • Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

4 out of 10 points and not recommended
    price, image quality
    construction quality, AF problems

Bought it for portrait work a few months ago, but it soon started having focusing problems, especially in low light conditions.

Thiking of switching to EF 50mm f/1.4 USM or EF 85mm f/1.8 USM

  • Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM

6 out of 10 points and recommended
    lightweight, small
build quality, plastic mount, tiny and wobbly focusing ring

It's quite OK as a starter kit lens (got mine as kit lens on my 350D), and if you don't make large prints or have the need for extra image quality.

  • Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

7 out of 10 points and recommended
lightweight, small, good image quality, IS
build quality, plastic mount, tiny focusing ring, no distance scale

I borowwed this lens from a friend of mine after my old 18-55 (non IS) broke down from extensive (ab)use...

I must say that even though the build quality is almost the same, image quality is better.
