  • Nikon 35-70mm f/2.8D AF Nikkor

2 out of 10 points and not recommended
Sturdy build, image quality not bad
Not so useful range. - Zoom is clumsy - Only available 2nd hand

ALL second hand examples (eleven : 11 ) I encountered, had severe haze , rendering the lens useless. (because the glue that bonds the lens elements evaporates inside and settles on the lens elements?)

  • Nikon 180mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF Nikkor

4 out of 10 points and not recommended
Sturdy build - Image quality good to OK (not really on digital)
CA - AF really-really slow - Typically a once good lens but in modern digital era not up to date anymore - Certainly NOT worth the second hand prices 2021

It's simple; Get an ED 180mm 2.8 manual focus.
You don't miss the slow AF and image quality is slightly better - less CA.

  • Nikon 200mm f/4D ED-IF AF Micro Nikkor

9 out of 10 points and recommended
Image quality is superb, also on digital camera's from today
Plastic AF ring breaks. - AF not really useable (slow) -

1993 ; Nikon redefines macro lenses
2021 ; Still the best macro lens ever made
Just don't use the AF (which you don't need anyway for macro work)
    _
PS if you think I'll just buy the MF version; DON'T
the image quality of the MF version doesn't come even close to the AF version

  • Nikon 200mm f/2G ED-IF AF-S VR Nikkor

9 out of 10 points and recommended
    Image quality - Bokeh !!! - AF-S = FAST!
    Heavy

Waited 10 years to get an affordable second hand model.
It was worth the wait :-) can't stop smiling!

  • Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G IF-ED AF-S Nikkor

6 out of 10 points and not recommended
Generally sharp - very wide angle
Very heavy specialized lens with some CA problems - corners need 5.6 = NOT good!

NOT up to date anymore; there are better + cheaper lenses for digtal camera's ; Tamron 15-30mm for instance -
NOT worth the new price in 2021
Paid 700$ second hand and sold it ASAP

  • Nikon 24mm f/1.8G ED AF-S Nikkor

10 out of 10 points and recommended
Image quality - Sharpness - lack of CA - AF speed - Price/value
    None? - a bit plasticky?

Astro, landscape, architecture,... need 24mm ? Get this one!

  • Nikon 18mm f/2.8D AF Nikkor

2 out of 10 points and not recommended
Small, good useable wide angle: 18mm
    Not sharp, CA, vignetting,...

    It's a dog

  • Nikon 16mm f/2.8D AF Fisheye Nikkor

9 out of 10 points and recommended
Sharp, sturdy, special, pushes your creative side
    It's a weird lens? :-)

Want something special and fun; buy this :-)
But careful, you can not use this every day; too special

  • Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8 AT-X PRO FX SD

8 out of 10 points and recommended
Sharp - good wide range - affordable
AF bit slow - need to stop down 1,5 stop to get best results

Need good value wide angle 2.8 zoom lens? Get this; as affordable as you will find and good image quality as a bonus.

  • Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF Nikkor

8 out of 10 points and recommended
Sharp - small-ish (compared to 70-200's) - good quality images
Older design a bit noticable on high res camera's like NIkon D850

    An overlooked 80-200mm/70-200mm design.
Still worthwhile in 2021 if you don't want top quality.
(though I don't like the newest 70-200mm 2.8 modern 2021 zoom lenses that much; they have this plasticky shallow supermodel picture outcome)

  • Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AIS Nikkor

7 out of 10 points and not recommended
    1.2 creamy bokeh - VERY sharp at f 5.6
HORRIBLE coma at night on 3/4 of the edge at 1.2 aperture.

Wide open not really useable unless for special effects (bokeh, which admittedly is very nice)
So why buy a 1.2 lens; bragging rights?
The best in what there is but market value; not really worth the money.

  • Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR AF-S Nikkor

8 out of 10 points and recommended
light weigth-ish for this range - sharp from 200-500mm
zoom ring motion (going from 200-500mm) is not easy; not possble in one turn

very good quality bargain lens! - 950$ is not cheap but worthwhile for this lens.
