Solid all metal build, Good range, marginally better optics than Canon equiv.
    Weight, no IS, slower AF.

If you are looking for the perfect walk around lens and the new 24-105L lens is out of your price range, then this is your best bet. I've had this lens for 2 years and the all metal body gives it that sold L feel and durability. The lack of IS maybe a drawback, but the optics are above the Canon 24-135IS at half the price. AF speed is average, not available in HSM/USM.

  • Canon EF 28-90mm f/4-5.6 II USM

    Motor USM, price.
Cheap build, bad CA, mediore range.

It's an OKAY lens if you're on a budget. I belive it does come bundled with certain cameras. The motor USM is fast, and probably this lens' only good feature. The CA is pretty bad, and it never seems able to produce tack-sharp images. The aperture is also pretty disappointing. But for it's price - you get what you pay for. Really only good for outdoor (aka bright) casual sports/action shooting.

Warning to those with butterfingers, the glass element directly behind the first element is attached internally via plastic clips. It is very likely that dropping it a few feet will cause that element to dislodge or completely come loose. It's a simple task of disassembly and clicking it back in for those mechanically inclined. Otherwise, probably something you'll need to baby.
