Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM
5 out of 10 points and not recommendedgood zoom range and very light weightpoor focusing ringIt is what it is. A "kit" lens. Bought the camera with the lens and if I did it all over again, I would have bought the body only. Focusing ring is very hard to use and it doesn't do any good with a polarizing filter.

Best suggestion, spend the extra$$ for the body only and buy the 17-55mm F2.8 IS lens or a Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 lens. It will be money well spent and you will be much happier. -
Tamron 28-105mm f/2.8 LD Aspherical IF SP AF
8 out of 10 points and recommendedExcellent zoom range for all around, Great with a flashWeight, slow auto focus speed.I had bought this lens primarily for use on vacation. A lens I could keep on the camera for all around touring. The zoom range works excellent with my 580EX flash. The biggest plus, F2.8 through the entire range, which makes it nice in low light conditions where a flash is not allowed. There is slight color aberration at 105mm @ F2.8. This is a heavy lens and the weight is noticable. The antislip feature on the zoom ring is a nice addition but I can see it as a wearable part in time. One of my biggest negatives is the speed of the autofocus. Very slow and it seems to hunt alot. However the diversity of this lens makes up for that.

Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC
8 out of 10 points and recommendedWeightnone so farBought this as a replacement for the Canon 18-55mm "kit" lens. The comparison is like night and day. If I could do it all over again, I would have paid the extra $$ for the camera body only and this lens. Nice large focusing ring and the ability to use filters without them changing on you while it is focusing. The wider aperture is a bonus too.
