Recharge your camera - and get some exercise at the same time By

(Wednesday, January 15, 2003 - 20:14 EST)Andus Technologies Inc.was showing what has to have been one of the more unusual ideas at the Consumer Electronics Show...
Their "ReCHARGE" device aims to solve the problem of running out of battery power just when you need it most - when you're far from home. Originally designed for cell phone use (but versions for digital cameras and MP3 players are available), the ReCHARGE is plugged into your electronic device and has a small hand-crank. Andus says that 3 minutes of cranking will get you 3 to 5 minutes of talk time on a cell phone. Booth staff seemed unfamiliar with the digital camera version - and no info is available on the Andus website - but it could be a useful gadget to bring with you on a hike, even if it only gets you a few extra photos. If nothing else, all that cranking will strengthen your arm, and you'll be able to carry the weight of an extra battery or two next time. ;)
