A press release on Pentax Japan's website today announces an update to its DIGIBINO DB100, which combines a digital still camera with a pair of binoculars.

The new DIGIBINO DB200 overhauls its predecessor with a higher resolution imager, newly added SD card storage and microphone for sound recording, EXIF 2.2 support and a stronger digital zoom. The 16MB built-in memory from the DB100 seems to have been removed in favor of the SD card slot. Resolution is now 1.3 megapixels, with the digital zoom working up to 4x (at full resolution, this is limited to1.3x digital zoom).

The binocular portion and remainder of the camera portion seem to be essentially identical to the DB100 -7x magnification, focusing range from 2 meters to infinity, 1.6" LCD display, USB and NTSC / PAL video connectivity, etc. As with the previous model, the digital camera uses a separate lens from the binocular section - but since the image sensor is somewhat larger than before, the equivalent focal length of the digital camera lens is somewhat wider.

Full specifications translated from the Japanese announcement follow, along with some (rather small) product photos. The Pentax DIGIBINO DB200 will go on sale in Japan from August 22nd, with pricing not yet announced.
