Booth Report: Rollei By
Michael R. Tomkins, The Imaging Resource (Sunday, February 27, 2005 - 15:18 EST)Rollei USA had quite a few announcements before this year's PMA show, including a restructuring of the brand in the US market.
Rollei's digital camera products have been available in Europe and Asia for some time now, but they've been rather harder to come by in the USA. That is apparently set to change, with Rollei USA LLC being restructured. The company announced US availability for four new digital cameras, three of them being five megapixel models with either 3x or 4.8x optical zoom. The remaining model is a four megapixel camera with 10x optical zoom. US fans of the Rollei brand will doubtless be glad to see changes being made to make the company's cameras being made more widely available here.
Rollei also announced its 6008 AF medium format camera, an autofocus model also designed to be used with existing 6000-series lenses. Courtesy of the PhaseOne db20p digital back, the 6008 AF can serve double duty as a 16 megapixel camera. As we understand it, the 6008 AF will only be available directly through Rollei USA itself, so interested parties should visit the company's website.
Our apologies for the fact that we don't have our own product photos of Rollei's new digicams - lighting wasn't very conducive to shooting them under glass on the Rollei booth, and with the end of the show rapidly approaching, we didn't have enough time to arrange to have the cameras removed from their cases. Hence, we offer our own shots of the Rollei booth, and Rollei's press images of the products themselves.
